1 General Remarks: Navigation and LinksAll navigators (Netscape, Internet Explorer, etc.) permit going back and ahead among already visited pages in three ways, namely by means of the keyboard, through the menu, or through icons. For instance, Netscape 4 for Unix allows all three ways.
All underscored words or expressions are links allowing you to visit other pages. For instance, you shall always find a link Main Summary bringing you back to the home page of the site. In order to follow a link just click on it with the mouse. A few navigators allow following the links by using suitable combinations of keys. 2 Size and Fonts of the TextSize and fonts in which the text is displayed are left to your choice. In Netscape 4 for Unix the fonts can be set by means of the menus Edit | Preferences... | Appearance | Fonts. 3 Translations and ``Re-directions''Several pages have been translated in one or more languages. In case, they can be reached through the links « Versione italiana », « English version », « Version française », or by clicking on national flags. If a page is temporarily not available, the reader is directed, after a short notice, to a page replacing it or similar to it in content. (If necessary, click twice on Back and come back to the original page.) 4 Pages ``Help'' and ``Map of the site''The present ``Help'' page is available everywhere in the site. Also a page ``Map of the Site'' is everywhere available. In the latter a complete map of the site is presented, so as to allow you to quickly jump from a point in the site to another.
5 FramesCertain pages can be read in a version with ``Frame''. Most navigators make this possible; in any cases a version without frame is always available. By clicking on ``Frame'' a window is divided into several parts (the ``frames''). Their relative dimensions may be modified by clicking on the separating lines and moving them around with the mouse. 6 Pdf FormatAll editions available on the site in html format will be, in due time, available also in pdf format, the latter presenting the advantage of a high-quality printing outcome. If a work is available in such a format, by clicking on the link ``pdf Format'' you shall be allowed to read it directly in this format (if your navigator carries a suitable plug-in), or to download it into your hard disk. You could then read it using a program such as Adobe's Acrobat Reader, available for free in the net. 7 Framework of a PropositionEach proposition of a treatise is provided with a framework containing all information needed to place oneself in the site and to visit it. The following example gives a maximum of information and may result over-specified in specific instances.
The first line (yellow) permits visiting the site. The second one (green) gives information on the page you are reading. The third line (blue) permits visiting the entire treatise where the proposition at issue is located and displaying the apparatus and the notes using the frames. The text of the edition follows, on a white background. The last line (yellow) ends the page and allow returning at the beginning of it. Here are some details on the above-mentioned links and information.
8 Variant Readings and NotesWords or phrases in bold-face followed by a marker of note carry variant readings in the manuscripts the transcription is based on. Click on the marker and the variant readings related to the page you are consulting will appear. For instance, by clicking on 28 in:
you will be sent to a page where you shall find:
Thus, witness A carries the reading: parallelus recta; whereas witness B: parallela erecta, and this means that witness A of the text you are interested in carries the reading: parallelus recta; whereas witness B: parallela erecta. A bracketed reference in a note is not a textual variant, but an editor's note. For instance, take:
Clicking on 6 you are sent to a page where you find:
Using the option ``Frame'', notes and variant readings will appear in a frame beside the frame of the text. 9 FiguresIt is possible to click on the figures contained in a page: the result is that a separate page containing only the figure will open.
